Trip report: Achensee.
Sep. 15th, 2010 05:12 pmWe live just 1 hour away from Alps but my wife and I have only been there once together. The weather last time was terrible, it was fall, so we hiked up muddy and icy slopes, and spent few hours only to gain ~800 m. So this last sunny and warm summer weekend we decided to go up to 2100 meters, some mountain top right above Achensee, Austria. It supposed to take 1.5 hours of driving according to Google Maps to get there. Of course, nearly everyone in Munich and around were as "smart" as us. This were exactly the words used on Radio Bayern when they reported how big traffic jams are.
I was told by my colleagues that going there at 7.00 AM is ok, but at 7.05 there would be already a traffic jam. We did not even managed starting at 9AM. So we spent quite some time moving at 5 km/h.
Original plan was to drive to 900m, take a cable car till 1800m, and then go up a bit to get to 2100m summit. Nothing fancy. There were quite a few kids starting from 3yo on the trail :) Unfortunately because of the traffic jam we were only able to get up to 1950m or else we would miss a last cable car back. Going down to 900m on our own meant getting back home well after midnight.
So instead of photo from the summit (which could be better downloaded from Google Earth) I had to do some even more boring one:

All pictures I've taken are either trivial (including one above) or personal, so I won't waste occasional reader's traffic here.
