Bali: agriculture[2/3]
Mar. 20th, 2012 10:51 amWe learned a lot of trivia about rice farming from our driver Putu. He told us he worked on his parent's rice paddles when he way young. He was trying his best to study English so he could work with tourists instead of working barefoot in a field, feeding leeches.

We've tried red rice there for a first time (it takes 2x more time to grow red rice than white rice and it acquires stronger taste). Now we are buying red rice from Thailand in Asian supermarket.
There are no autobahns.

Most of the roads on an island are 1.5 lanes wide.
Seaweed or rice farming, heavy stuff is transported by women and they do it in a same way.

Asking Hindu gods for help helps getting better harvest.

It does not help to get rid of leeches and snakes on a rice field.
