I was recently asked by my boss: Hey, I need to be in Stockholm on May 16th, but there is a major gay and lesbian event on the dates and all hotels are overbooked. As a backpacker, what would you suggest? The immediate answer was fly to Goteborg, not Stockholm, then you could spend the same money you you are not able to pay for a night in the SAS Viking for overnight train ticket from Goteborg, and it would be almost equally comfortable. One of my colleagues had the similar way of thinking and suggested to fly to Helsinki and spend a night in a ferry, but I think that "drunk ferries" are not as comfortable as european trains that I personally like. Nevertheless, the advices were not very useful because the boss had managed to find a room in some hotel in the outskirts of the Stockholm, probably gay and lesbian activists were not aware of it's existence.
