Last post about Seychelles: fauna
Mar. 26th, 2011 10:03 amThis post is just my annotation for my pictures with Seychelles animals in picasa album
The most famous animal is of course giant turtle. It is a very phlegmatic creature, slow, big and friendly to humans.

This one is a free turtle, a lucky one. It is very unfortunate that the bastards from Union estate show about 40 of them to tourists and make them live in a very poor conditions.
Long post, 10 more annotated pics under cut. Some of them were censored by LJ engine Upd: fixed now. There was a bug in a regexp parser that parses URIs. Picasa URIs from one of google servers were considered harmful by LJ engine.
Domestic:
There are many dogs.

This one is Wolfgang (same name as my boss's boss). He lives in a guesthouse where we stayed. I am not quite sure how he manages to tell visitors at which he barks from guests who he likes.
Local cat.

There are more dogs than cats on the islands

By the way picasa thinks the right dog is a human and wants me to give it a name :)\
Local ppl use every opportunity to get some protein other that from a seafood.

hence cows, goats and chicken are abundant.
There are several kinds of lizards and one chameleon.

One big but harmless spider that tends to live in quite places like this shrine

There are at least 3 common species of crabs, they live everywhere, very easy to spot and photo:

coconut crab
Sand crab.

This one found a dead sea urchin and digests it.
And a shiest one, who lives in a shell it finds on the shore.

Birds:
A very common pigeon.

It is marginally bigger then our sparrow. Very friendly to humans.
It is not a parrot, it is a sparrow:

Also very common and gets close to humans.
2 different herons, live on fish market.

There are not many seagulls, I've seen only few frigates. This one is the most common one that feeds on small fish near the shore.

No idea who those are, but they were very vary of me, it was quite difficult to make this picture.

This is not a seagull. It is the most famous endemic bird on the island, a paradise flycatcher.

There are few more but I am tired of typing :)
And the last thing, a small quiz:

Which 2 tropical products do they harvest on this plantation?
