Last few years most of my customers are in industrial embedded space.

Here are major current developments:

1. Going multicore. Provided that real time guarantees are met. This is tricky as sync primitives are a major source of jitter.
2. Workload consolidation based on virtualization. Including moving specialized processing (fieldbuses, DSP) from ASICs to software. Provided that realtime guarantees are met.
3. 32 bit -> 64 bit or 32e bit transition.
So it is safe to assume, that industrial computing is repeating the history of enterprise computing, but is late by ~6 years.

Then in 6 more years I can expect industrial solutions moving to cloud-centric compute model. That would require very strong infosec backing.
