Just returned home from a business trip to US. This time I went there with Julia. Originally I planned that there will be a gap between meetings. 3 work days plus a weekend could have been a good holiday. Also it helped that a conference I was invited to speak at was held in a secluded lodge in Cascade mountain range.

We were staying close to Columbia river gorge, it was very beautiful and always misty.

Unfortunately plans changed, and we did not have as much time to spare as we hoped, because I had to fly to a Silicon Valley for another meeting. But there was a bright spot about it.

When leaving the airport, I met [livejournal.com profile] panchul who took the same plane from Arizona. He suggested us a great itinerary for the sightseeing on Saturday, and quickly organised a Sunday walk in Stanford. I never been to Stanford before: every time I went to the valley I only had time for meetings. (Once I tried to do sightseeing but it did not quite work: my colleague and I went to Berkeley on the way from Santa Clara to Folsom, and ran into a small car accident there).

Yuri posted participants faces, and Igor posted some scenery fotos, and helped Julia and me taking pics of us together.

I only made couple of banal pics of Stanfords attractions.

Unfortunately we had to leave around lunch to catch a plane to Oregon via Phoenix. (Yes, weird routing but this happens when travel plans change in last minute.) We are sorry we did not have time for properly saying "goodbye" to everyone, as we were in a hurry to catch our plane.
Only 4 hours after we were going up to the tower, I noticed we are flying over it.

Julia and I are very grateful for Yury for organising a Stanford tour, and we thank everyone for their company and insight about life in the Silicon Valley.
