Undewater pics north-west Bali [2/2]
Dec. 5th, 2012 04:05 pmWhen I was entering the office today I have noticed they changed pictures hanging at the main staircase. They always decorate it with some paintings or photographs, latter usually made by employees. They put new things on every couple of months. Starting today we have very good pieces of underwater photography made by some of my colleagues. (I have yet to find who he is but I think he is not the engineer - I know all engineers in the building and they have other hobbies).
That colleague of mine has some serious camera, so he can print his shots on A3.
Mine are good till A4 at best.

Underwater case for my normal camera costs zillions (I don't know why a piece of plastic can cost thousands of euros, any ideas?), and is bulky. It must be good for scuba, but when I do apnea dives my Panasonic DMC4 is very handy - I operate it with one hand, and the camera is very small and light.
Here is our diving boat.

It is barely visible form this distance. So I used the picture to calculate the visibility range in that waters. When I ascended, the distance to the boat was ~20 meters. The depth was about 5 meters. So my estimation for the hypotenuse was ~22 meters. Then I checked on a calculator. (Just typed sqrt(20^2+5^2) in google and got 20 meters and 60 centimeters! Good for a visibility range, not good for my calculating skills.
Very often I regret I don't do spearfishing.

However I think I would not feel comfortable spearing a fish like this one. I can pick a lobster some times or fish with a fishing rod, but for me it does not feel right to kill a fish with a spear.
Speaking of a lobster..

I did not pick this one :) It was in a natural reserve, so verboten ist verboten.
Locals build fences so the fish goes in in high tide and cannot go out in low tide.

Just kidding, that is seaweed plantations, fish comes there on high tide to hide or graze.
A very good camouflage.

Julia told me she thinks the fish is changing its color, I think it is just lucky to live near to this coral of the same hue.
