I'll start with kittens. (As I don't have any pics of thieves) There is a pier in Eilat that is located right at the border with Aqaba. The pier is inhabited by several cats and dozens of kittens. Local boys come to the pier to catch some fish. If the fish is not big enough to take home, they give it to the kittens.

After a short fight the strongest kitten takes the fish, hides between the rocks and eats it discreetly. The kitten on the right is not the strongest one. He did not win the fight, but rather snatched the fish from other kittens that were too busy fighting. Now he is pursued by two stronger kittens, and his chances to eat the fish are slim.

Getting back to the human thieves... You can usually tell if theft is common in the country by filling a tank of petrol in a gas station. If they don't require to pay in advance, like in Germany and many other European countries, many places in US, New Zealand, etc, etc, it means that stealing is not part of the county's culture.

In contrast to that, in Russia, Israel, and some places in US you have to pay for the petrol in advance - the gas station owner is afraid that you'll fill the tank and drive away without paying. Yesterday I had to fill the tank of a car we rented before returning it in the airport. So I drove to a gas station, and started a dialog with a guy at the counter.

- May I fill the tank?
- Yes, how much petrol you'll need?
- It should cost something between 150 and 200 shekels.
- OK, then give me 200.
- Here you are.
After filling the full tank, it shows that it costed me 172 shekels.
- May I have 28 shekels back please?
- Here is your receipt for 172 shekels.
- May I have 28 shekels back please?
- All is OK, you've paid the correct amount.
Switches to Hebrew.

We had to rush to the airport to get on our plane back home in time, so I did not have any time to get my 28 shekels (8 dollars) back.
