Trip report: Wellingon-Hamilton by car
Mar. 24th, 2010 10:58 amThis trip had never actually happened. I'll go by train which is slower, a bit cheaper and less fun.
I was not sure when do I go, so was not able to book in advance. As it is a business trip, I can only get a car in a company which name starts with "X" (as in Russian word "good"). I went to their web site, filled the form and it told me that there is a car available, but I should call local agent.
So I did. I am glad it was 0800 number, because for first 10 minutes I was listening how many great cars are on offer and how great the insurances and other offers are. Every 2 minutes or so this stream of commercials was interrupted by a male voice, that sounds absolutely like real person, so I had to start listening again. But the voice only was asking me to wait some more again and again. I wanted to talk to a human so I waited.
Finally there was a voice with strong Лiwi accent, asking if she can help me. My answer was that I wanted a car.
- Which pick-up place?
- Wellington.
- We don't have anything in both Wellington and Wellington airport. She hanged up.
Then I've realised that I did not tell her the date, and she have not asked. Does it mean that they don't have any cars in Wellington at all, I wonder?
Just to be fair, I've checked Avis and Budget and couple of local companies and none have any cars available for tomorrow.
