The robot movie was shot in a controlled environment. Now I've taken it to Maker Faire Rome to be shown on stage and at a booth.
Here is the plan (P), and the reality (R).
1.10.2014:
P10:30 - I check in bags with assembled robot in MUC, pay 50 euro for an overweight bag (32Kg), another one 20Kg is free for me as a frequent traveler.
R10:30 - A lady at business class check-in counter offered me an upgrade to business class, so robot transport is free.
P14:00 - I arrive at Rome airport, collect my bags, go to the venue.
R14:00 - I arrive at Rome airport, wait for bags.
R14:30 - My first bag, containing most of the robot, arrives.
R14:35 - My second bag, containing robot's batteries and other stuff arrives.
R14:36 - I get to a taxi, and noticed that my 20Kg bag weights like it is 15Kg. I thought it is because I am so refreshed after a business class travel.
P15:00 - I arrive at Maker fair location, unpack robot, assemble it.
R15:30 - I arrive at maker fair location, unpack the robot. Traffic in Rome is heavy, and taxi driver drove me through the city instead of using an outer road.
R15:35 - I found that the robot's batteries are missing from a second bag. I call vendor for specs, lufthansa customer service for complaint.
P16:00 - I test the whole setup, have some snack.
P18:00 - we rehearse everything on stage.
P19:00 - I go to a hotel to have some sleep.
R16:20 - With a help of my Italian colleague, we went to a nearby motorcycle shop where they might had matching batteries. They did, but it took us 2 hours to buy them. The Italian mechanic was marvelous - he did everything by himself, and repaired the robot.
R19:00 - I was only allowed to move the robot to the stage for 2 minutes, not enough for rehearsal. Taken it down to try in a hall.
R21:00 - All works in a hall, going to a hotel.
