Gone to the bush
Locals call native forest "bush", and they use word "forest" for commercial "sustainable" forest. "sustainable" means they will replant it when it will be harvested for timber.
Looks like I have something to do for next few hundreds of weekends or so. There are hundreds of well developed and documented tracks, and tens of them are within one hour driving distance from our home.
Being a lousy photographer, it is nearly pointless to reproduce the right impression on the web. Here is an image captured from the summit of one of the Hakarimata hills facing north.

The industrial building in the center is the coal/gas power plant, that produces about 20% of New Zealands electrical power. (Other 30% is being produced on the hydro-power plants up the Waikato river, also on this picture). The picture does not look sunny, but we've clearly felt the ozone hole above us standing on the hill.

This one is the berries of Nikau palm the only New Zealand's native palm.
